"Almost" Summer Notes Continue to feed as long as the bees are taking the syrup. Typically, once blackberries start to bloom, you MAY be able to remove the feed. However, make sure they have food (honey) stored in the frames, enough to sustain them during a cold and/or wet spell of weather. You can get a good feel for this by lifting the back of the hive and judging how heavy it is. If there is not enough for them, leave the feed on awhile longer. However, you don't want to be feeding during a honey flow (no suger water in your honey!). Sometimes it is a juggling act to balance feeding with honey gathering/storage!
